There is a growing body of knowledge and science that is concerned with how we can truly extend our life span into the New Millennia including: Life Extension Medicine, Anti-Aging Programs, Fountain of Youth, Longevity Factors, Preventive Medicine, Environmental Medicine, Free-Radical Molecular Medicine, Nutritional Medicine, Applied Toxicology and Detoxification, Applied Immunology, Hormonal Supplementation Medicine, etc.

Today, many people are praying to find open-minded, wholistic, nutritionally-oriented methods to extend their Life and increase Longevity because they are “sick and tired” of drugs, hospitals, surgery, and eventually being put in an “old folks” home. Furthermore, many studies reveal that 65% of our health is entirely related to our lifestyle (i.e. diet, seat belts, mental attitude, exercise, relationships), 21% due to environmental factors (i.e. pollution, socioeconomic, climatic), and only 14% due to genetics and health care (hospitals, drugs, doctors, etc.). Therefore, this tells us that, “You are in control of your health,” which depends on mostly Lifestyle (65%) and Environment (21%)! Finally, it is my contention that the prevailing evidence reveals that:

“Improper lifestyle, lack of exercise, sleep deprivation, faulty dietary habits, environmental pollution, yeast/candida/parasite infestations, misuse/overuse of medications, vitamin/mineral/nutrient deficiencies and unbalanced mental/emotional states are (86%) major contributors to health problems and aging!”

For the next few minutes please consider the following questions regarding commonly accepted fallacies about aging:

  • Why are so many of the Elderly being stricken with Alzheimer’s and Senility? Is this normal???
  • Why is there such an Epidemic of Chronic Disease that we all Experience as we Age (High Blood Pressure, Heart & Artery Diseases, Diabetes, Cancer, Sexual Dysfunction, Arthritis, Digestive Disorders, Breathing Disorders, Chronic Fatigue). Is this normal???
  • Is it really necessary when we get older for us to be on 5-6 different medications and have several major surgeries? No!!! But this is what we all too often.
  • Are there really good alternatives to Drugs? Yes!!!!!
  • What fundamental biological mechanisms cause Aging and can these be retarded/ or reversed? Yes, and the earlier you start the better and easier it is!
  • What nutrients and Lifestyle factors reduce? Aging?
  • What about Sleep, Sex, Depression, Memory, Concentration, Digestion… How can we maintain vitality in our daily functions as we age?
  • What role does our toxic environment, stress, immune system deficiencies and nutritional inadequacies play in aging? Answer: A big role!

From over 23 years of patient care, I observed 15 root causes of disease that are common and underlying this Western, modern, industrialized way of life here in the U.S. Furthermore, I have found that by identifying these root causes and implementing lifestyle changes, environmental changes, appropriate treatment, and therapeutics; patients have had a remarkable response and greatly increase their life-span and longevity.

These 15 Root Causes of Disease are as follows:

  1. Chronic constipation and toxic bowel
  2. Lack of good physical exercise (internal and external)
  3. Poor digestion, absorption, and assimilation
  4. American dietary hazards (fat, sugar, salt, processing, chemicals, low fiber, etc.)
  5. Lack of live “uncooked” food in the diet
  6. Vitamin, mineral, and nutrient deficiencies
  7. Food allergies
  8. Candida (yeast), pathogens, and parasites
  9. Poor water drinking habits
  10. Liver weakness, insufficiency, over activity, or toxicity
  11. Environmental pollution (chemicals and heavy metals)
  12. Psychoneuroimmunology (the mind-body connection)
  13. Adrenal stress syndrome
  14. Sleeping dysfunction
  15. Infectious diseases: bacterial and viral

The Basics (The Most Important): Food (Diet), Water, Air

Food (Diet)

Dietary health hazards are so common today in the restaurants, grocery stores, and homes across America that there is no question that they have serious causative link to cancer, heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and virtually all chronic diseases.

Dietary hazards include: refined carbohydrates, sugar, caffeine, soft drinks, salt, milk products, overconsumption of any fats, saturated fats, trans-fatty acids, partially hydrogenated oils, food additives (artificial colorings/flavorings/sweeteners/preservatives, sulfites, BHT, BVG, BHA, MSG, sodium nitrates/nitrites, antibiotics, hormones, etc. and so on — there are literally thousands!!!), heavy metals (lead, arsenic, and cadmium from our polluted environment).

Solutions:

  • eat “whole” foods diet
  • eat as much organic food as possible
  • shop at health food stores where you will find employees and owners brimming with healthy food choices
  • shop at farmer’s markets that have a wide assortment of fresh and/or organic produce, meats, eggs, and fish
  • read and analyze labels (if you don’t know what it is or can’t pronounce it, don’t eat it!)
  • eat freshly prepared food,
  • avoid as much as possible canned, frozen, boxed, or “packaged” food that has been “processed”
  • read, study, take classes, subscribe to newsletters, educate yourself: don’t let the media control your mind; think for yourself.

Water

The tap water that all too many people drink on a regular daily basis is unsafe and a major contributing factor to disease and aging. The tap water is very, very polluted with many toxins, carcinogenic agents, heavy metals (cadmium, lead, arsenic, mercury), aluminum, hydro-fluorocarbons, chlorine, fluorine, petroleum products, rust, bacteria, etc. Do not drink or consume tap water in any form. Also, it is highly recommended that you do not bathe or shower in tap water…. as the pores of your skin absorb many of these toxins even faster than by drinking. Instead invest in a whole house water filter that uses Reverse Osmosis, Carbon Filtration, and/or Deionization Methods.

Most people that come into my office do not drink adequate amounts of “pure” water. Also, many people confuse drinking other liquids as being a replacement for drinking at least 8 glasses of water daily.

Water is one of the most frequently overlooked nutrients on many diets, perhaps because it isn’t thought of as a nutrient. Yet water is vital to good health. Virtually all body functions require water. Digestion, absorption, circulation, excretion, the transport of nutrients, building tissue, and maintaining body temperature would all be impossible without water. Almost every living cell in your body depends on water to perform its functions.

Many illnesses have a “water drinking” problem component including: urinary tract infections, constipation, toxicity, dehydration, kidney dysfunction, heavy metal poisoning, bacteria infections, obesity, chronic fatigue, liver dysfunction, and may be an underlying contributing factor in practically any chronic disease.

Air

Another important aspect to consider in our immediate environment is to raise our consciousness about the “quality” of Air we breathe. Many people are not aware that breathing polluted air wreaks havoc with our lungs leading to all sorts of upper respiratory and immune system problems… Yes, today much of our air is polluted with heavy metals, chemicals, poisons, molds, fungus… so much so that I recommend you consider the following:

  1. Spend as little time as possible in: Paint Store, New Homes/Condos, Carpet Stores, Home Depot. Why? Because you are breathing the toxic plastics, formaldehyde, paints, rugs, etc…. and this will make many people sick and at the least weaken them.
  2. Stay away from Smokers and Second-hand smoke which causes 100,000 deaths per year.
  3. Finally, consider purchasing a high quality air filtration system that actually cleans the air. There are whole house systems and also particularly useful are portable room units on the market…. You can place these units in your bedroom, office, etc….. places where you spend a lot of time breathing.

External and Internal Exercise

I am sure most of us are very aware of the benefits of regular exercise although we see too many still not exercise. Yes, my friends, regular physical exercise is surely a key component to good health…. burning fat, building muscles, detoxing the body, stress relief, Weight Control, regulating hormones…. the list goes on and on and on about the tremendous benefits of regular “external” exercise to your health and well-being. “external” exercise includes: aerobics, bicycling, calisthenics, weight lifting, jogging, running, walking, dancing, stair climbing, stretching, swimming, sports… The opposite side of the same coin from external exercise is internal exercise which is all too often overlooked here in America.

What internal exercises or healing arts are we talking about: Yoga (hatha, kundalini), Meditation (Qi Gong, raja yoga), Tai Chi, Deep Breathing, Visualization, Tantra Yoga.

These Internal Healing Arts are designed to balance the Chi, increase the Life Force, stabilize and strengthen the Internal Energy flow.

Juicing and Raw Food

Juicing and eating a Live Raw Foods Diet are two major league secrets to great health, increased longevity, enhanced sexual potency, improved digestion, mental clarity. My experience as a Medical Doctor, Healer, and Family Man has born out that juicing and eating a live raw foods diet can and will have a dramatically positive effect on your health, effectiveness, and happiness.

Liver Detox

First of all, let us understand that your liver is probably the most significant internal organ in trying to stabilize and regain health and increase longevity, not to mention extend life.

Truly, an impaired liver can result in or greatly contribute to an unlimited number of disorders or diseases including: cancers of all kinds, arteriosclerosis (resulting in heart and artery diseases), skin disorders of all kinds, environmental sensitivities, allergies of all kinds, hepatitis, hormone imbalances, inflammatory joint disease, neurological diseases, fibromyalgia, anemia, and chronic fatigue syndrome to name a few. In fact, science tells us that the liver is responsible for over 3000 different functions in our bodies.

Fasting

Consider periodic fasting (abstaining from food). There is a book that I highly recommend called fasting can save your life by H.M. Shelton many life extension folks fast for a day, 2-4 times per month, even skipping a meal and drinking pure water is very useful.

Fasting allows the body to rest, cleanse, detox, and rejuvenate naturally and it costs nothing! But I must warn you to become very educated when fasting and be careful not to overdo it.

Guard Against Nutritional Deficiencies

In my office, we have the ability to test and see which Nutrients, Vitamins, Minerals, Amino Acids, Fatty Acids in which a patient might be deficient. You see, I personally find that if we can clear up these Nutritional Deficiencies — it then allows the body to be properly fueled. Then many conditions may indeed clear up, not become chronic and not decrease our longevity (i.e. Aging!) I recommend that all people take a full spectrum vitamin/mineral supplement.

For Women in Particular

Consume as much Soy Phytochemicals as possible (Note: Japanese Women live the longest and have the least Breast/Ovarian/Uterine Cancer on the planet and it is believed that their success is related to high consumption of Soy production and low consumption of FAT and less obesity).

Avoid taking estrogen unless absolutely necessary. Consider natural alternatives – Herbs and Lifestyle. Estrogen is a double-edged sword because it indeed does benefit menopausal symptoms, but it also has been shown to increase the risk of Ovarian and Breast Cancer.

For Men in Particular

Get education and training in seminal retention, ejaculation, Tantric Yoga (the Yoga of Sex), Karenza Method… It is important for Men to conserve their seed. This is a tremendous Life Extender.

All men 40 years of age and older should be supplementing with Saw Palmetto and Pygeum as a Prostate Cancer Preventive.

Other Supplements

Another Life Extension Supplement is “Garlic”. I recommend that we all consume Garlic on a regular basis…. Garlic has been shown to:

  • Stimulate the immune system
  • Lower lipids (Fats, cholesterol) in the blood stream
  • Prevents Atherosclerosis (plaque build-up in the arteries).

Consider “Melatonin” Supplementation. This supplement is the major hormone emitted from the Pineal Gland (induces sleep at night) which unfortunately diminishes greatly as we age. We, at least, want to restore our youthful levels of melatonin in the system (Note: By age 80, the melatonin production has dropped off very low)… the benefits of Melatonin are many including:

  • “Greatly” improving sleep patterns
  • Powerful Antioxidant
  • Powerful Immune System Stimulator
  • May be the major anti-aging hormone
  • Very safe – in laboratory tests, the scientist could not administer a dose high enough to mice to kill or harm the animal.

Consider DHEA supplementation. DHEA is the most abundant hormone in humans and is an essential component in many physiologic functions: It plays a major role in the immune system; It is a building block for sexual and other hormones; It determines general levels of well-being and mood. Well, unfortunately, we find DHEA is deficient in almost every major disease, including obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, cancer, immune disease, and Coronary Artery Disease. And as you might have guessed DHEA diminishes with age.

Another life extension nutrient is Co-Enzyme Q10. It is present in every cell in the body. The level is OK before age 40. After age 40, the body’s ability to produce it is diminished. It is very helpful in preventing Heart Disease and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Another important life extension nutrient is: “Happiness”, “Laughter”, “Fun”, “Play”, “Meditation”. There is scientific evidence that happiness and peace increases one of the most important Anti-Aging Enzymes is Superoxide Dismutase.
