This is the #1 Fear plaguing "MEN" in the Western World, especially here in America....
Let us first face the STATISTICS.... Let's All take a "deep breath" and then we will begin... Okay?
1.Prostate Cancer is the 2nd Leading Cause of Death due to all CANCERS
(2nd only to the lethal Lung Cancer)
2.Prostate Cancer is the #1 occurring Cancer afflicting MEN in the U.S.
(other than Skin Cancer)
3.There has been an Amazing 600% increase in new cases of Prostate Cancer since 1985,.... which, by the way, is the fastest rise in a specific cancer-type detection ever recorded!!!
4.In 1996, there were over 300,000 New Cases of Prostate Cancer and over 41,000 MEN died due to this male epidemic.
5.1/5 of males in America will contract Prostate Cancer
(as compared to 1/9 of women getting Breast Cancer)
.... Does it seem like an Epidemic to you yet?.... to realize that 20% of All Men will get Prostate Cancer....
Well, if you think that's a lot, get this....
6.For African American Males, the picture is even more bleak because there is an even 34% Higher incidence of Prostate Cancer in African American males than White Males, and the Death Rate is 100% higher.
Why are African American males affected so disproportionately? Could it be as some so-called "experts" suggest that African Heritage gives some "so-called" genetic predisposition to Prostate Cancer.... I really don't think so because at the turn of the century there were virtually no cases of Prostate Cancer and related problems in all of Africa (and it is still rare). Or could it be that Black Men in America truly experience more Stress (due to Racism), eat more FAT, JUNK FOOD, FAST FOOD, SALT PORK, RED MEAT, SUGAR, Refined FLOUR, FOOD PROCESSING, and CHEMICALS and.... smoke more cigarettes, drink more alcohol, and take more drugs and abuse our bodies more than anyone else on the Planet. Also again, let us understand that while Prostate Cancer is so, so common in North America and Northwestern Europe, at the same time it is very RARE in the far East, Africa, and South America. Therefore, we must conclude that it is indeed, unquestionably, without a doubt, the Environment, Life-Style, and Diet that is making Prostate Cancer such a plague to MEN (and especially Black Men) that live in the Western Industrialized, so-called "Civilized", so-called "Modernized", American Nightmare (Oh, sorry! I mean American Dream) ---- Culture???
So now to summarize the STATS again, Let us clearly understand that Prostate Cancer:
1.Is the 2nd Leading Cause of Death due to all Cancers in Men
2.#1 occurring Cancer afflicting Men
3.1/5 of males will contract Prostate Cancer
4.African American males contract Prostate Cancer at a 34% higher RATE
5.African American males die at "twice" the rate
6.There has been an astounding "600%" increase in Prostate Cancer since 1985
7.Each Year over 320,000 men contract Prostate Cancer
And over 41,000 men die from it.
Again, I ask you if this Epidemic is enough for me to have your full attention on this???.... Oh and by the way what are the "Possible" Symptoms of Prostate Cancer? They are as follows:
·Urination difficulties due to blockage of the urethra
·Bladder retains urine, creating frequent feelings of urgency to urinate, especially at night; may have difficulty stopping urination
·Urine stream may be narrow
·Bladder doesn't empty completely
·Burning, painful urination
·Sometimes bloody urine
·Tenderness over the bladder and dull ache in the pelvis and back.
Until recently, Prostate Cancer was considered an "old man's" disease. However, we are now finding that this dreaded illness is becoming more prevalent and deadly to men in their 50's, their 40's, and yes, even Men in their late 30's. How many of us know exactly what the Prostate Gland in Men does? Well, for our edification.... the Prostate is a sex gland found only in men and is located inside the lower abdomen at the base of the penis. It's "purpose" is to manufacture prostatic fluid, which carries the sperm making up the semen. The prostate gland also is comprised of a pump to push semen out and a valve that allows semen or urine to flow at the right times and in the right direction. Therefore, any Prostate disease (especially Prostate Cancer) can:
·Have a major impact on urination,
·Impair Fertility
·Interfere with a man's ability to have an erection, orgasm, and/or ejaculation
Other illnesses of the Prostate include:
·Prostatitis, which is inflammation of the Prostate Gland, characterized by pain, burning during urination, and the need to void frequently. You can have Acute Prostatitis caused by a bacterial infection or Non-Bacterial Prostatitis caused perhaps by Prostate Congestion induced by: Abstinence, Extended Sexual Stimulus not followed by Ejaculation, Ejaculation Failure or Interrupted Coitus (or "pulling out") used as a form of birth control, or Prolonged Intercourse
·Also, there is BHP which is Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia which means enlargement of the prostate.
Prostatitis and Enlargement of the Prostate are not Prostate Cancer, although they may share some similar symptoms. So now the good news about Prostate Cancer is that it is Highly "Treatable" and very Often "Curable", and equally important, it is most definitely Preventable!!! In fact, the 5 year survival RATE, of Prostate Cancer, using Conventional Treatment only is a Remarkable 86%.
So now the bad news about Prostate Cancer is that:
·Men don't want to talk about it or even consider it
·We think it can't happen to us
·We may think it only happens to "old men" who are dying anyway
·Or we just try not to face the "unspeakable propositions" that Prostate Cancer may invariably lead to impotence or incontinence and.... as we have discussed.... all these notions are largely "wrong"
Contrary to popular opinion, if Prostate Cancer is caught early and treated effectively, it doesn't mean death, impotence, or incontinence. But all too often we see "male denial" working against early detection and effective treatment.
·43% of DOCTORS surveyed by the AMA in 1992 claimed that men with Prostate Cancer go untreated merely because they don't want to talk about it with their Doctor.
·And an astounding 85% of DOCTORS surveyed revealed that even men who do talk about Prostate Cancer are not prepared to cope with it well - either pragmatically or psychologically.
Think about it, because this is a "Major Problem" in Dealing with Prostate Cancer.... What happens when a "middle-aged" man, facing all sorts of new concerns about his virility, suddenly now discovers that he has Prostate Cancer? How does he go about confronting a disease that attacks his so-called source of manhood, and that threatens to destroy his bladder control, his sexual capabilities, and his very life!!!!!?
Now, let's get to the 4 Most Popular Preliminary Screening Tests used to detect Prostate Cancer:
1.DRE - Digital Rectal Exam, a simple 1 minute exam performed by inserting a lubricated gloved finger into the rectum and pressing toward the pubic bone. DRE will miss approximately 50% of Prostate Cancers.
2.PSA - Prostate-Specific Antigen Blood Test
This is a test that measures an enzyme normally found in low amounts in the blood. When there is a problem with the prostate, the PSA leaks into the blood stream, thereby raising the level in the blood. PSA testing will detect more than twice as many Prostate Cancers as DRE alone.
3.TRUS - Transrectal Ultrasound
Done by a specialist in an outpatient clinic and takes about 20 minutes and is painless and harmless.
NOTE, however, that the Digital Rectal Exam, Prostate-Specific Antigen Blood Test, and the Transrectal Ultrasound do not confirm Prostate Cancer, but serve as detection for the possibility of Prostate Cancer.
Therefore, BIOPSY is the only definitive method for confirmation of Prostate Cancer where actual samples of tissue are removed and examined under a microscope. In a biopsy, a thin needle is inserted into the suspected area through the rectum or the skin near the anal opening. A small sample of tissue is withdrawn and sent to a lab for examination. Needle biopsy can be performed in the urologist's office and is relatively painless.
Now "men", let's face these Tests head on that we are afraid of or shy away from:
·1 is the DRE in which you experience 1 minute of slight discomfort in your rectum area
·In another test, the PSA Blood Test, you experience the prick of a needle
·The TRUS - ultrasound is Painless
·Even the Biopsy, if needed has been rendered relatively painless
So I trust we have demystified Prostate Cancer testing procedures for US.
"Annual" Screenings are recommended for the General Male Population beginning at age 40 and earlier if you have a Family History of Cancer or other additional Risk Factors.
Let's briefly review the current TRADITIONAL TREATMENTS that Western Medicine offers:
1.Prostatectomy - removal of Prostate Gland. Treatment of choice, most common treatment and most aggressive.
2.Radiation Treatment - treatment for patients with aggressive tumors where surgery is unsuitable. Basically, high-energy subatomic particles are used to bombard and destroy Prostate Cancer cells.
3.Hormone Treatment - palliative used to extend life in advanced Prostate Cancer. Basically this involves reducing testosterone production or blocking activity of this hormone which in turn can significantly retard the growth of Prostate Cancer in some patients.
4.Cryosurgery - uses probes to flash-freeze diseased tissue. Riskier, used for patients unsuitable for surgery or unresponsive to radiation.
5.Chemotherapy - involves highly potent drugs that knock-out the patient's immune system, while attempting to slow the growth rate of cancer cells. Chemotherapy has not proven to be very effective for Prostate Cancer.
6.Doing Nothing - preferably the best approach for older patients with slow growing tumors that are more likely to die from another cause. Some Prostate Cancer is so slow growing that there is really little to be concerned about.
PROBLEMS WITH CONVENTIONAL/TRADITIONAL TESTING AND TREATMENTS
FOR PROSTATE CANCER
1.Prostate Surgery can lead to high re-treatment Rate. A recent study conducted by the U.S. Health Care Financing Administration discovered that Prostatectomy (which is surgical removal of the Prostate) is often not the end stage in treating Prostate Cancer. In this study involving 3,494 men, treated by prostatectomy, an alarming 35% of these cases required further conventional treatment within 5 years, including usually radiation, removal of the testes, or hormone supplementation.... It was that the problem lies in the medical promotional literature and information so characteristic of the Cancer Industry that led many men to believe that Prostate Surgery alone would be sufficient to end their Prostate Problems.... Again it is so often the case in the Cancer Industry - we find the underlying causes of Prostate Cancer (or any other disease) being neglected as usual. A more effective approach, without a doubt, would be to perform the necessary Prostate Surgery and then institute aggressive immune- enhancement, detoxification, life-style and dietary changes that are Anti-Cancer and Pro-Life!!!
2. PSA Blood Test - Not well publicized by the Medical Community are the several short-comings of this Popular Blood Test used so commonly to detect possible Prostate Cancer. First of all, what's called "False-Positive" Results.... What this means is that a high PSA (reading greater than 4) is by no means proof that cancer is actually present, since factors other than cancer can also yield a high PSA such as: an enlarged Prostate, an outside mechanical source of pressure on the Prostate, or inflammation of the Prostate. In fact, "false-positive" test results are so common, occurring in approximately 50% of all PSA test results. And on the flip side, many men who actually have Prostate Cancer may show a low or normal PSA reading at the time of testing. This is called a "False Negative" Result.
***Men ( and Women also) should also consider getting a simple Blood Test known as the AMAS test which has been shown 95% reliable and accurate on the first test, and 99% when repeated (as reported by a Dr. Bogoch's Oncolab). While the AMAS test was approved by the FDA in 1977, it wasn't until late 1994 that clinical trials with 4000+ patients were completed, validating the test's remarkable effectiveness. Technically speaking, the AMAS measures the amount of a specific antibody called anti-maligin which acts against the inner protein layer of a cancer cell, called maligin. Also, unlike the PSA, this AMAS test measures the presence of any CANCER in the body, not just PROSTATE. The advantage is the AMAS test can detect CANCER up to 19 months before "conventional" medical tests for cancer can find it. However, the AMAS test is not effective to detect Advanced Stages of Cancer.
Based upon my research, I believe that both the PSA and AMAS blood tests together would be more a comprehensive "screening" procedure to detect any CANCER in the Body, including Prostate or Breast Cancer.
DR. RICHARDSON'S RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR THE
PREVENTION OF PROSTATE CANCER
1.Avoid: Red Meat, Fried Food, Fast Food, Junk Food, Saturated Fat, Sugar, Salt, Carcinogenic Agents contained in commercial, processed, de-vitaminized, de-mineralized food.... Basically, eat a low-fat, organic, vegetarian diet, as much as possible.
2.Reduce Your Exposure to Toxins in our environment such as: smoking, second-hand smoke, traffic smog, tap water, commercial, processed food, alcohol, hardware store fumes, etc.
3.Obesity: Being overweight significantly increases likelihood of getting Cancer.
4.Drink plenty of Pure (Spring or Distilled) WATER.
5.EAT, especially, Vegetables or Fruits rich in Beta Carotene including: Broccoli, Carrots, Cabbage, and Cantaloupe, and/or take Beta Carotene Supplements.
6.Eat, especially, FOODS containing Tomatoes which appear to Reduce Prostate Cancer rates by 45% for those who have at least 10 servings per week.
7.Eat, especially, Fish oil supplements or Flax seed oil which contain high amounts of EPA's which have been shown to suppress the growth of Prostate Cancer.
8.Take Selenium and Zinc Supplements
* Selenium has been shown to inhibit the growth of CARCINOMA cells in the Prostate and also blocks the stimulatory effects that CADMIUM (cadmium, by the way, is a heavy metal so often found polluting our environment and eventually our bodies --- contained in Batteries and Cigarette Smoke). Zinc also blocks the effect of Cadmium. Also, be advised to eat a lot of pumpkin, sunflower, sesame, and poppy seeds for Zinc, EFA's, and Selenium.
9.Eat, especially, SOY FOODS, by virtue of their high genistein content has been shown highly Anti-Cancer.
10.Eat, a lot of Citrus and Apples, especially, for the Pectin which has been shown to reduce Prostate Cancer metastases in Laboratory Animals.
11.Exercise, Exercise, Exercise: Physically active men have a much lower risk of Prostate Cancer.
12.Herbs that are Anti-Prostate Cancer include: Saw Palmetto, Pygeum, Ginseng, Herbal Pumpkin, SUMA, Dandelion, Echinacea, Astragulus, and many others.
13.Avoid Chronic Constipation: Chronic Constipation can be a factor in transmitting bacteria to the prostate through the lymphatic system. Straining to defecate can force bacteria into the lymphatic ducts and this eventually into the prostate. Also, constipation tends to re-circulate and accumulate toxins in the Blood and Liver which encourages TOXICITY in General which may encourage CANCEROUS ENVIRONMENT in the Body.
